A Taste of France...La Petite Creperie

I can't think of many things I enjoy more than biting into a buttery, sweet crepe first thing in the morning, and I couldn't have been happier when I found out about La Petite Creperie, a newly opened french cafe just 10 minutes from my house in Mar Vista. Hailed as some of the most authentic crepes in LA, I had to make a visit, and at last, I got my chance.

After reading reviews that this place gets packed later in the morning, my friend and I headed over early, and ended up being the first customers there. The ambiance was very casual and Parisian, making me feel like I was in an authentic, cute, French cafe.

I've heard great things about their savory crepes, but I knew right away that it was a sweet one I wanted. They had a number of delicious sounding crepes such as citron (lemon, butter, and sugar), Nutella with banana or strawberry, house made strawberry, raspberry, or blackberry jam, and pommes (slowly cooked apples, butter, and cinnamon). In the end I chose the house made strawberry jam and my friend got Nutella with banana and hazelnuts.

The crepes were very light and chewy, unlike some heavier, thicker crepes I've had in the past, and had just enough filling, not too little but not too much. The strawberry jam was fresh and sweet, and absolutely delicious, but I did leave feeling not completely satisfied. I had a taste of my friends Nutella banana, which is typically my first pick when it comes to crepes, and it was creamy and sweet like I had expected (how can one go wrong with chocolate, hazelnut, and banana?). Probably if I had gotten that, or another more substantial fruit filled crepe, I would have been perfectly satisfied, but I was in the mood for something light and different than my usual flavor choice. Can't wait to come back again to try their other sweet crepe offerings!
